The Wyndham Books story
Wyndham Books publishes new and exclusive ebook, print and audiobook editions of bestselling works by some of the most popular authors of the twentieth century. We also publish a selection of new popular fiction and non-fiction.
The imprint was inspired by the books that publisher Ian Skillicorn inherited from his grandmother. These include many books he read while staying with her as a child and young adult. Ian embarked on a mission to track down the rights holders of these well-loved books, in order to reintroduce them to the reading public.
All of the books published by Wyndham Books were previously out of print, yet still in copyright. Finding the rights holders and giving the books a new lease of life became a passion. It is this genuine admiration and respect for these timeless classics that has led to the commercial and critical success of Wyndham Books.
The first author to be published by Wyndham Books was the “Queen of Storytellers” Catherine Gaskin, licensed by her literary estate, The Society of Authors. This was followed by other household names from the twentieth century. These include the internationally best-selling author of Hardacre, CL Skelton (now adapted for television as the period drama The Hardacres); celebrated Yorkshire writer, broadcaster and actor Naomi Jacob; Guinness World Records title holder Ursula Bloom; hospital romance pioneer Lucilla Andrews; “Australia’s Queen of Romance” Lucy Walker and one of Mills & Boon’s most successful authors Anne Hampson.
The new editions have seen these popular authors top the bestsellers lists again in the UK, US and Australia, in some cases many years after they had died. Wyndham Books takes great pride and care in managing the legacies of these authors, which have been licensed by their literary estates.
To complement the success Wyndham Books has enjoyed with reissuing classic bestsellers, the imprint has chosen a select number of modern fiction and non-fiction to join its list. This includes international bestseller Letters from Malta by Mary Rensten and the celebrated Della Arthur Investigates series by Gwen Parrott.
