Netta Muskett
Netta Muskett was a much-loved author who wrote bestselling romantic fiction over four decades of the twentieth century.
Her books depicted the dilemmas faced by people, particularly women, at a time when issues such as infidelity, divorce and illegitimacy could ruin a person’s life. These stories of love, romance and family were told with insight, compassion and understanding.
She taught mathematics before joining the Voluntary Aid Detachment, driving an ambulance in France during the First World War.
In 1925 she married Henry Wallace Muskett and brought up four children, three of whom were from Henry’s previous marriage.
Netta co-founded the Romantic Novelists’ Association, where she served as Vice-President. In her honour the RNA created the Netta Muskett Award for outstanding new writers, now called the RNA New Writers Scheme.
